Originally launched as a YouTube channel under the name 'Sims Movie Collection' 5 Sim Lane has evolved from a simple youtube channel to the fan site/news source it is today.

 

Back in 2008 the YouTube channel was home to 'The Sims Movie Collection, a collection of (low quality) short films based on the fictional lives of The Goth Family produced using The Sims 2 (& Later, The Sims 3). In mid-2010, Due to time, workload and other commitments, one final dramatic short film brought the series to a close. Shortly after the series ended, a short video was released teasing the potential for further sequels. Production of a new series did commence but was shelved due to further time constraints/workload. Episode 1 of the shelved sequels was completed and released to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the first short film under the title: The Lost Episodes. Since it's launch in 2008, the series has reached over 255 thousand views.

After a couple of years out due to studies the site branched out from YouTube to Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter under a new name 'Simmer James'. Simmer James was a blog used to share screenshots, videos, creations and more. The blog was somewhat short lived due lack of time while taking on further studies.

After an extra long break, fast forward to 2018 - To commemorate the 10 Year anniversary of the release of the first short film, Episode 1 from the shelved project was released on the original YouTube channel and promoted as 'The Lost Episode'.

Summer 2018 - After the 10th anniversary a major rebrand took place including a new name, '5 Sim Lane' (a nod to the Goth family's original address/lot name) and a new logo and design for all social media channels.

​

2019 - The official '5 Sim Lane' website launched as a home/hub for all content, bringing together all social media channels in one place.
